COPDANET in short was born in 1998 to support the coastal poor during natural disasters and train them to conserve coastal natural resources especially mangrove eco system to replenish fishing resource.

        India has a long coastal belt more than 7500 kilometers including Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The list of socio environmental issues faced by the coastal population are too many and frightening especially when you think about climate change and global warming.

        COPDANET India was born in 1998 to work for a better coastal eco system and improve the quality of life to several thousands of coastal poor. COPDANET comprises of scientists, environmentalists, researchers and NGOs who serve as watchdogs conserving natural regenerative systems and the inhabitants. COPDANET India is registered under Societies Registration Act, of 1991 of ACT 27 of 1975. and accredited with F.C.R.A code from the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi to receive donations locally and internationally (FCRA No. 075900579).

        COPDANET works tireless to improve health, sanitation and the livelihood options of the coastal communities. Environmental awareness is regularly imparted to children in schools and communities and coastal people have always been engaged in mangrove afforestation and conservation is number one priority is given for community health, community development, alternative income generation, child and mother care and victims of Tsunami of the coastal poor. Training the coastal poor to protect coastal natural resources and use them economically for their development is being taught with enough discussion among the locals.
