Felix N. Sugirtharaj graduated from Madras University and holds a Masters Degree in Divinity from Union
Theological Seminary, affiliated to Columbia University and a
Doctor of Ministry from Chicago Divinity School accredited to
Chicago University, Woodlawn, Chicago U.S.A.
He worked tirelessly with small fisherfolk and the Coastal Poor (Dalits)
and fostered Labour Unions to negotiate legally with the
Government on redressing grievances related to fishing rights and
coastal land rights.
He founded two mangrove resource centers both in Pulicat lagoon,
South India and Shore Point, South Andaman Islands conserve
mangroves through peoples joint management of restoration,
propagation and conservation.
On October 25, 2005 Dr. Felix was awarded with a Special Life Time
Award for helping Tsunami victims and restoring mangroves in
Pulicat Lagoon and Andaman Islands by Seacology, USA. .
